Be You!

Today I would like to encourage you to embrace something God has wonderfully created…you. There is no one else who can be you but you. With so many different voices speaking into in our lives including our own, sometimes it can be difficult to find and maintain who we are and what God created us to be.

It took me many years to become comfortable with just being me. One reason is I never saw myself through Gods eyes. I never saw myself as enough. I never saw how God made me beautiful and wonderful because I was made in His image and likeness. In Genesis 1:26 the writer states, “Then God said, Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us” (New Living Translation Bible, 1996).

When I was younger, I was always striving to become what others thought I should be. I was living to please others professionally and personally. What did that get me? It got me a lot of unhappiness with low self-esteem. Always trying to be someone you are not is a lot of hard work and can be very tiring. You see, I was trying to become “the someone” that people thought I needed to be and not what God had created me to be which is simply me.

Now don’t get me wrong, all of us have areas in our lives that need improvement, but improvement does not include becoming someone you are not. Improvement means becoming a better you. It is important to understand God made us all unique and different and because we are made in God’s image, we can be successful in this life.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (New Living Translation Bible, 1996). When I finally woke up to the fact I was God’s masterpiece, it set me free. I no longer needed approval from other people because I was God approved!

King David said in Psalms 139:13, “you made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb” (New Living Translation Bible, 1996). God created you and knitted everything you are together in your mother’s womb to be you! So, don’t be me, be you!

I no longer hide the fact that I am a little weird, quirky, and different. I embrace it and have fun with it by finding ways even to express it. So, I encourage you, if you have lost yourself and you are not honestly being you, then take the time to reacquaint yourself with who you really are and enjoy what God created you to be. You!
